Return of the pirates - as PC substitute for terrorists

The MSM must surely think its living in a world of fiction (Pirates of the Caribbean, perhaps?), and now, as a result, as Debbie Schlussel points out, they've taken to using "pirates" as a substitute for terrorists, when reporting on Somali terrorists, such as the ones who were captured by the US Navy after trying to take over a cargo ship last week.

Let us be clear, these "pirates" do not have any peg-legs or eye-patches or silly looking beards. They are modern-day terrorists, plain and simple.

At the same time though, it should be noted that the Arab pirates who worked off the Barbary Coast in the past centuries were very much like terrorists, and by today's standards, I'd say that their actions from then could pretty much be described as terrorism too. Even the cannibalism of the Islamic conquestors dating as far back as Muhammad.

Labels:

Funny that, in doing so, they make it clear exactly how terrorists must be regarded under international law, and how the US and other civilized nations must deal with them.
