(Steven Spielberg did something similar in his own take on War of the Worlds, when he showed a whole riverful of them floating down a stream, which made the movie simply unbearable.) Not only that, but in Pittsburgh, it was thought to honor the victims of the plane crash there with a crescent design, which is disturbingly similar to the Islamic symbol.
