Natan Sharansky to receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

One Jerusalem's current newsletter proudly announces that its founder, Natan Sharansky, has been selected to recieve the Presidential Medal of Freedom:
One Jerusalem is proud to announce that its Chairman, Natan Sharansky has been selected to receive one of the United States' most prestigious awards -- the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Sharansky will join a list of past recipients that includes Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Ambassador Jean Kirkpatrick, Prime Minister Tony Blair. President Vaclav Havel, Lady Margaret Thatcher, President Ronald Reagan, Mr. Whittaker Chambers, Rev. Billy Graham, Mother Teresa, and William F. Buckley Jr.

The award is presented to people who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."

As a dissident standing up to the tyranny of Communism, Natan Sharansky served many years in prison and came to the notice of the world.

Since gaining his freedom, Natan has used his international standing to stand up for oppressed people every where. He has documented his personal experiences in his best selling books Fear No Evil and The Case for Democracy.

Natan has also worked tirelessly to protect the sacred city of Jerusalem. He has fought against its division and he has worked with One Jerusalem to end the destruction of Christian and Jewish artifacts on the Temple Mount. You can help support Natan's ongoing activities on behalf of the Jewish people, Jerusalem, the State of Israel, and the victims of tyranny by making a donation to One Jerusalem. Consider honoring Sharansky by supporting his cause of Jerusalem.
Yes, please do.

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
