Now, it looks like it's official
Tzipi Livni has decided to go for new elections:
(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister-designate Tzipi Livni announced late Saturday night she is throwing in the towel on trying to form a new government coalition. She will inform President Shimon Peres early Sunday morning. And that's the limit for me, too. Therefore, her decision to go for new elections is most welcome.
He then will go through the formality of asking other party leaders to try to succeed where Livni failed. The result is certain elections in mid-winter. In the meantime, outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will remain at the helm.
Livni, who is Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, gave up after Shas and (United Torah Judaism-UTJ) refused to join a new government. The last straw for them was her refusal to promise that Jerusalem will remain the undivided capital of the country.
