The former French president visited Israel, and during a visit to Shimon Peres at the presidential manor, he said:

Sarkozy, whose maternal grandfather was Jewish, said the Jewish people, who waited for years to build their own state, were those who could best understand the Palestinians’ wish to have a state of their own.Sorry, but I think he can take his claim of friendship and stuff it. All he did was trivialize his visit by suggesting he was more interested in pushing for 2-state solutions, and in doing a non-existent race/nationality a service. So, how can I be too sorry he lost the prior election?
The former French statesman, who arrived in Israel to receive an honorary doctorate from the Netanya Academic College, thanked Peres for his “warm hospitality” and reiterated his friendship for and commitment to Israel and the Jewish people.
