Haredi hoodlums can't be dealt with leniently
Lipman continued by calling on the authorities to take a hard line with the perpetrators and crack down seriously on their violent activities, as well as on "incitement" by their leaders. These riots have entered their 3rd day, and the violence still goes on:
"I applaud the police for arresting the hooligans but the process must continue further. They cannot be released to their homes but must experience the full strictness of the law. And this must not only be applied to the hooligans but also to those who sent them - the rabbis who incite them.
"We cannot allow concern for the dead to come at the expense of the welfare of those who are alive. This is a desecration of God's name and disgraces Judaism."
According to the police, approximately 50 haredi men connected to Atra Kadisha, the organization opposing the building project, gathered to protest against the construction work which has since restarted. Police arrested three men for causing an affray, one of whom was lightly injured and sent to Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem. A police officer was also mildly injured and was treated at the site.Funny how they can be so concerned with the dead yet have no such respect for people alive.
