Chief rabbis oppose women serving in IDF
The Chief Rabbinate ruled that Jewish law forbids religious girls from enlisting in the IDF, Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio) reported Thursday. The ruling came following recently published figures showing an increase in religious female recruits. No, they were just going backwards in beliefs, is all. They insulted the memory of biblical Miriam, as I've argued at times, and the chief rabbis are also lying about women's role in battle too, since Miriam played a part in the battle against the Amaleks and other antagonists. What would biblical Moses think if he witnessed this insulting mishmash? And what proof do the rabbis have that women cannot perform military service in any way? Some women have proven themselves expert intel officers and strategists, and some have even proven themselves as the simplest of secretaries. And how do those dummies thank them? By opposing their wish to prove themselves to the Jewish nation. If they have a problem with combat roles, I can understand that, but if it's only non-combat roles they'll take, then I think the rabbinate should just knock off the nonsense.
MK Elazar Stern (Hatnua) criticized the ruling Thursday, saying "every step by the rabbis against the growing phenomenon of religious female IDF recruits serves to highlight [the erosion in] the rabbis' status, and their connection to Israeli society and the true challenges."
Stern has actively been pushing for Hareidi-religious to enlist, claiming in November that "the country has things that are important besides learning Torah. There is something more important than Torah study, and that is life and death." Back in 2011, the MK criticized religious soldiers for walking out of a ceremony in which women sang, implying they were getting "too religious."
