The former chief rabbi is now standing trial for racketeering:
The corruption trial against former Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger has begun Thursday in Jerusalem District Court. He's merely added himself to the growing list of felons who're breaching public trust under Haredi guise. What was he even going to use all that money for? I'm sure it wouldn't go to funding defense against jihadism, and that's one more reason why the man is a shame unto the nation.
Metzger is charged with money laundering, bribery, theft, income tax violations, conspiracy to commit a felony and breach of public trust.
Reportedly, while in office, Metzger solicited and accepted illicit funds amounting to some 10 million shekels ($2.6 million).
[...] Metzger's personal driver, Haim Eisenstadt, has also been charged with bribery as he allegedly acted as the rabbi's middleman. The indictment also asserts that Metzger had instructed Eisenstadt to lie to the police when questioned.
