Thanks to the Haredis' hostility to Reform/Conservatives, they're going to sue
Non-Orthodox Jewish organizations in Israel plan to soon sue the Israeli government in order to secure a space at the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site, for mixed-gender prayer, the groups said in a letter released July 11.The worst part is that the Haredis are technically threatening violence if the government won't agree to their demands:
The letter indicates that the Conservative and Reform movements in Israel have given up hope that the government would implement its plan, announced in January 2016, to create a new space for worshippers, mostly from the Reform, Conservative, and other liberal movements, who wish to pray at the Kotel in a mixed-gender service.
But since the government’s decision, which passed despite the opposition of the ultra-Orthodox parties in Netanyahu’s coalition, these parties have been pressuring the government to pull out of the agreement. They warn of “bloodshed” if the government continues to ignore the incitement against them. In June, speaking on an Israeli radio station Rabbi Avigdor Nebenzahl, rabbi of the Old City, declared that “there cannot be any compromise with the Reform,” and called upon the entire ultra-Orthodox public to “prevent the Reform from desecrating our holy spaces.”Wow, and I thought the Haredis were basically the ones committing the incitement. It goes without saying their approach is offensive and a smash in the face to everything Judaism's supposed to stand for as a whole. As does, in fact, this alarming scene where a Haredi crackpot tore up a prayer book to protest Women of the Wall. I don't believe the Haredis opposing the Reforms and Conservatives - the latter whom my grandparents were adherents to - really respect Judaism, let alone the Temple Mount and Western Wall. They're just causing trouble for the sake of it. I can't blame the Reform/Conservative movements for deciding to take the case to court, and that includes any refusal by authorities to oppose thugs who harass during prayer. Eventually, the Haredis will pay a heavy price for all the trouble they're causing, right down to any socialist positions they hold.
