Sounds like this ultra-Orthodox rabbi's setting a good example on mixed company relations
A prominent Haredi rabbi defended simple dating habits for the younger generation and said even non-religious children deserve one's respect:
A remarkable video has emerged of Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, one of the two preeminent leaders of the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) world, advising families with children who have become non-religious not to reprimand them or kick them out of the house, but instead to show them warmth and kindness.I'm glad somebody of that standing's come forward to verify that sexual relations between consenting adults, if anybody, is not the worst thing that could happen. The same should go for if a mature girl brings home a boy and sleeps with him. And if the relations result in pregnancy, that's great on the basis it can lead to more children for the world, and certainly if the parents to be know what it takes to raise the child for the cause of good.
The rabbi even went so far as to say that in a case where a mature boy brings home a girl and ostensibly sleeps with her in the house, the parents should not reject or reprimand him.
The video was made several months ago by Rabbi Avi Fishoff, an activist in the US Jewish community undertaking outreach for people who have left the religious life. He met with Edelstein to consult with him as to the correct attitude for parents to take toward such children.
