Haredi extremists attacked UTJ's Meir Porush

Despite his being a socialist, his community is basically turning against him in Beit Shemesh:
Deputy Education Minister Meir Porush (United Torah Judaism) was attacked this morning in the city of Beit Shemesh by dozens of haredim opposing his yeshiva student IDF recruitment policy.

Porush, who lives in Jerusalem, came to pray at the house of his Rebbe in Beit Shemesh. At the service's conclusion he left the house and walked toward his car, and was attacked by local residents who cursed and chased him until he managed to escape.
It evidently makes no difference to them whether his positions are in their favor or not on army recruitment; they still clearly despise him regardless. They probably didn't even vote for UTJ in the previous elections either.
