Gantz flip-flops on a national unity government
Blue and White leader Benny Gantz caused a political uproar on Thursday when he gave two opposite answers to the question of whether he would sit in a government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.I think he actually does want to join a national unity government arrangement, but doesn't really have the courage to admit it. Not only that, he even wants to form a government with the Haredi parties, and he attended a special meeting in Bnei Brak a few days ago trying to convince them his partner Yair Lapid doesn't hate Haredis, which, now that I think of it, might be correct, recalling he once tried several years ago to convince them to form a coalition with him. In any case, Gantz's own flip-flop may not endear him to the left, and certainly shows he's more an opportunist than anything else. Though he is still bad news, of course. And that's why in the end, the political landscape would be better off without him.
When Gantz was asked at the Knesset by Maariv diplomatic correspondent Yanir Cozin on whether the American peace plan could lead to a national unity government, Gantz replied, “We decided that Israel comes before everything, so we will support what is good for Israel.”
The statement – of not ruling out entering a coalition with Likud – went viral on the Internet. When Gantz found out that he had been misunderstood, he hurried back to reporters and changed his tune.
Gantz claimed in a statement to dozens of reporters that he did not hear the initial question because it was directed toward his ear that was damaged during his IDF service. “I didn’t understand the question,” he said. “I want to replace Netanyahu, not to sit with him.”

Their capital is Jerusalem.
Here stood their Temple with its boundless riches.”
