Book store chain possibly run by Haredi business still selling Walder products
I recently took a trip to Eretz Yisrael, and I discovered two Seforim stores in the heart of Yerushalayim, which were both selling Chaim Walder books.Similar valid queries could be asked about whether it's appropriate to allow children near writings of monsters like Khomeini, Arafat, Abbas, Milk, Ghandi, and goodness knows who else in history who turned out to be evil in ways of jihadism and sexual violence. Although, it would be more ideal to say that buying the books is insensitive to victims. And it's true Walder did inject positions in his books that were insulting to the intellect, including telling a victim she was right not to inform anyone, though I can't recall exactly where I saw said info just now. But since the topic comes up again, there was an account published by one of Walder's victims available here, that's important for reading too.
I must say, I’m very torn about this. On the one hand, I’m sure that the stores want to salvage their investment and don’t want to throw out books and lose money.
With that said, Gedolim were very strong in their warning that these books should not be brought into one’s home, or be read by children.
The man was a monster and a sociopath. To put it into perspective – if Charles Manson or Vladimir Putin or Jeffrey Dahmer wrote children’s books, would you let your child go within 500 feet of them?
For one thing, reading these books seems insensitive to the victims. In addition, the books may be filled with subtle nuances, that a twisted genius like Walder used to harm readers and mess with their heads.
Anyway, no matter how one looks at this, the book chain still selling copies of the creep's writings isn't improving the situation. We can only hope the clientele will avoid buying the trash, even if Walder can longer cash in on what money's made off of them. As I've argued before, the books should be transferred to a criminology institute for research. That's how to deal with writings of evil men.
