Canadian Muslim who traveled to Syria to participate in jihad pleads guilty in court
A Calgary man who traveled to Syria to join the militant group Islamic State pleaded guilty Thursday to terrorism-related activities.Another adherent to the Religion of Peace throws his life away for the sake of violence, when here, he could've been part of wider society and built up a prosperous life not based on barbarism for sport.
Hussein Borhot, 36, pleaded guilty to one count of participating in terrorism group activity between May 9 and June 7, 2014, and the commission of the offense of kidnapping for a terrorist group while in Syria. The maximum sentence on the second offense is life in prison.
RCMP arrested him in July 2020 after a seven-year investigation which also involved the FBI and US Department of Defense.
