Rebutting an Oprah apologist
I'd probably have posted this on my comics blog, except that this looks more like something that would fit in better here. The Scripps-Howard syndicate's mega-leftist comics columnist, Captain Comics, wrote a sugary love letter on March 19 to Islamofacsism's loyal apologist, Oprah Winfrey, suggesting books that she add to her book club:
For example: As Debbie reported last year, Oprah asked readers of her self-indulgent "O" magazine in the April 2005 issue to "understand" Mohammed Atta:
Since 9-11, this, sadly enough, is what Oprah's been doing, and for all I know, she may have been an apologist for Islamofascism even earlier. For now, the fact stands that Oprah is one really revolting rat.
Some other examples of Oprah's duplicity include:
Refusing to acknowledge Islamic slavemongering.
Claiming that Kuwait is "the only democracy in the mideast", and even whitewashing Castro's Cuba!
Going AWOL at first when hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans. And when the word got out and she moved to change her plans, she botched things further by featuring music by Kayne West, who wrote a ludicrous anti-Bush song! But that's nothing compared to when she and her cameraman partner, Mehmet Oz, sensationalized the horrors of Katrina, in a show recording that is just too sickening for words (speaking of sensationalism, Capt. Comics did something similar when he "reviewed" DC Comics' ugly and rancid little chick-bashing miniseries, "Identity Crisis"). See also this letter by a US Navy official who witnessed Oprah's behavior during hurricane Hugo.
And while we're on the subject, here's another howler by the bad Captain in his gushing love letter to Oprah worth noting, that being what he says regarding James Frey, who wrote a contrived book about being a reformed drug addict:
Man, am I glad I woke up smelled the coffee, and realized that "Captain Comics" was as bad as they come in the MSM. Considering that this was written some time after Oprah's cover was blown, one would've thought Capt. Comics would at least check the facts. Regardless, his going around gushing over and prostrating himself to someone as horrifically dishonest as Oprah happens to be is truly disgusting, and lowers him to just as bad a level as she. Not to mention that it's unlikely that Oprah will take any of the books he suggests into her book club, unless he were to recommend something as bad as what an anti-Israeli publisher in Egypt put out the other year.
Frankly, if there's anything the bad Captain and Oprah both need, IMO, it's...

Dear Oprah:Well, that last sentence sure remains in question. And as for saying that he feels like he knows Oprah, well then, did he ever take a look at what she's become in recent years? Better still, did he ever parchance happen to read any of Debbie Schlussel's research on Oprah?
May I call you “Oprah”? “Ms. Winfrey” sounds so formal, and after all these years seeing you on my television, I feel like I know you, even though we’ve never met.
I guess you get that a lot.
For example: As Debbie reported last year, Oprah asked readers of her self-indulgent "O" magazine in the April 2005 issue to "understand" Mohammed Atta:
...Oprah’s “O” asked readers to understand “The Heart of a Destroyer,” Mohammed Atta. You remember him-the Al-Qaeda ringleader of the 9/11 hijackers who murdered 3,000 Americans. And there you have it, folks, that's the real Oprah for you. And Capt. Comics is whitewashing all that? Shudder. Now I know why I'm glad to have woken up to his hypocrisy as I did a couple of years ago.
But that’s not exactly the way “O”’s “reading room” wants you to remember him.
Beneath a picture of young Mohammed and his smiling sister on the Egyptian beach, “O” exhorts you to read a book that “sets out to understand the hearts and minds of the men behind the photos” of the 9/11 hijackers, a group of “lonely, exiled young men.”
But the fatherless and motherless children who lost their parents to Atta-they aren’t lonely, are they?
[...]
To add insult to injury, the latest issue, “O”'s June 2005 edition, demands that we understand the pain and turmoil of Yusra Abdu, a teen-age Palestinian would-be homicide bomber, fiancée of Hani Akad, leader of Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine terrorist group. Akad’s group, funded by Libya (one of “O” Mag’s “Five Places to See in Your Lifetime”), murdered 27 children and injured 134 when they attacked a Jewish school in Ma’a lot, Israel. Note the map of hate and swastika in the group’s May 22, 2005 Syrian-based newsletter.
But in Oprah’s world, Muslims aren’t terrorists, and terrorists aren’t Muslim (more on that, below). Instead, “O” calls Akad “a charismatic and young rebel.” “O” describes the cold-blooded, hateful Abdu and Akad as “a Shakespearean tragedy.” Yes, in Oprah’s world, Islamic terrorists aren’t terrorists. They’re James Deans, Romeos, and Juliets.
And it’s not their fault that they’re homicide bombers. Or Islam’s fault. “O” quotes Saudi-funded Islam apologist John Esposito blaming not Islam, but the desperate “context” of their lives. Reality: Most Palestinian homicide bombers, like the 9/11 hijackers, come from wealthy families, but they hate Jews, Christians, and Americans. That’s the “context.”
Since 9-11, this, sadly enough, is what Oprah's been doing, and for all I know, she may have been an apologist for Islamofascism even earlier. For now, the fact stands that Oprah is one really revolting rat.

...after that James Frey mess, I really feel your pain. You were used, girl, no doubt about it! I’m glad to see you took that rapscallion to the woodshed, but I still feel like I should help out somehow. Seeing as we’re such good friends and all.LOL. Oh yeah, she was used alright! From the NY Times (Hat tip: Michelle Malkin):
[M]ore than three months before questions were raised about Mr. Frey's memoir by the Smoking Gun Web site (www.thesmokinggun.com) -- before, in fact, Ms. Winfrey first had Mr. Frey as a guest on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" -- producers at the program were told by a former counselor at the foundation that runs the Minnesota treatment center reportedly used by Mr. Frey that his portrayal of his experience there grossly distorted reality.So. What's that about Oprah's being duped and used by James Frey again? Hello there! Knock knock, anybody home? More from Overlawyered and Michelle.

She is a sow. She doesn't speak for me.
I find her disgusting and out of touch with the real world.

I sure hope that Oprah's talk show gets cancelled soon, just like Phil Donahue's, and he was also something of an apologist in his time.
