How do we know it wasn't Fatah's side that pulled the murders?

While it may have been Hamas that claimed responsibility for yesterday's murder near Kiryat Arba, I've been thinking: what if it was Fatah's own gang that actually committed the crime, and Hamas is more than willing to serve as a cover?
I wouldn't be surprised if it were terrorists under Fatah's side that did this, and Hamas is doing this so that Fatah can get some leverage in the pseudo-negotiations in D.C by not looking like the ones responsible. But for now, there's no way to tell clearly. What can be said now is that it's almost crystal clear that Fatah will not hand over any of the suspects they arrested.
Meanwhile, Ehud Barak has said that they'll do everything they can to bring in the murderers. Well they better, if they want to maintain a sufficiently credible image here.
Update: commentary from Phyllis Chesler.
