France charges Algerian jihadist for joining terror group
French authorities have filed preliminary charges for terrorism against a 27-year-old man who allegedly travelled to fight in the border zones of Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is a good sign the French authorities have acted to deal with a jihadist. Of course, they should also make sure to severely charge those who conspire to commit violent acts of jihad back on French turf as well.
Police investigators say they believe the Frenchman of Algerian origin spent 10 months in the volatile region, which is a base for the Taliban and al-Qaida linked fighters, before returning home earlier this year.
