Tzipi Livni quits Knesset
JERUSALEM: Tzipi Livni, who recently lost her position as leader of the opposition, has resigned from Israel's parliament, the Knesset, but said she was not quitting public life.Oh please. Popular? Not by a longshot. The leftist press once lauded her all as a means of attacking Netanyahu, but as she has since demonstrated, she is not and never was fit to be a premier herself at all. Her resignation is honestly welcome, and she'd do well to pursue a better business avenue.
''The state of Israel is too dear to me to stop working for its interests,'' Ms Livni said before handing her letter of resignation to the Speaker.
Not long ago, Ms Livni, 53, was a popular and leading force in Israeli politics. But her political future has been in question since she was removed as leader of the centrist Kadima party in late March by her arch-rival, Shaul Mofaz, a former military chief and defence minister.
