Who was really behind the Muhammed film?

The news has been revealed about who the main producer is who filmed "Innocence of Muslims" and posted it to YouTube, or who owns the company that backed it:
THE search for those behind the provocative, anti-Muslim film implicated in violent protests in Egypt and Libya led yesterday to a California Coptic Christian convicted of financial crimes who acknowledged his role in managing and providing logistics for the production.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, said in an interview outside Los Angeles that he was manager for the company that produced Innocence of Muslims, which mocked Muslims and the prophet Muhammad and may have inflamed mobs that attacked US missions in Egypt and Libya. He provided the first details about a shadowy production group behind the film.

Mr Nakoula denied he directed the film and said he knew the self-described filmmaker, Sam Bacile. But the mobile phone number that the Associated Press news agency contacted yesterday to reach the filmmaker who identified himself as Sam Bacile traced to the same address near Los Angeles where Mr Nakoula was found. Federal court papers said Mr Nakoula's aliases included Nicola Bacily, Erwin Salameh and others.

Mr Nakoula said he was a Coptic Christian and that the film's director supported the concerns of Christian Copts about their treatment by Muslims.
It's still not clear who the exact maker of the movie is, and come to think of it, it's unclear whether he/she is even Coptic, but while I respect his right to speak out against Islamofascism, and he's doing the right thing there, I don't think he/she should be posing as an Israeli as was assumed earlier or even a Copt if they're not.

In any case, the Islamic reaction to the film was completely unjustified and much more of an obscenity and an abomination than the movie itself.

Update: in more related news, riots and more violence broke out at the US Embassy in Yemen.

Update 2: the California police are now providing protection for Nakoula and his family as he's become fearful of retaliations.
