Fox News ending Shepard Smith's news segment

It looks like Fox is discontinuing one of their news segments with Shepard Smith, but still keeping him around:
Fox News Channel is eliminating one of Shepard Smith's two daily newscasts and putting him in charge of a news team designed to quickly break in to other Fox shows when something big is happening.

Smith, the network's top news anchor, signed a new multi-year contract, the network said Thursday. He will keep his 3 p.m. Eastern newscast while the 7 p.m. show is eliminated.
Why do they need to employ him? He's one of the worst staffers they have, and his standings on Israel, for example, are but one reason why I can't stand him. IMHO, he deserves to lose his position as an anchor, but they they're still keeping him on. Pity.
