Latest Haredi anti-war efforts
The Lithuanian Haredi leadership is the latest to oppose army service and undermine the country. Their anti-military incitement includes such yawners as this:
Rabbi Baruch Dov Povarsky, head of the Ponevezh Yeshiva, said, “We are fighting for our lives; they don’t understand. They want to kill us, all of us. The Torah is our life, and [yeshiva] students must take to heart and know that this is a war of life and death.”I doubt the Torah is his way of life, since he obviously shuns the argument laid out by biblical Moses that the Israelites shouldn't just idle when there's a battle to be won. And shame on him for his language against "they" when there's jihadists out there who're the real danger to be dealt with. Sadly, his words will have influence on some in the community, and it will cause harm.
