The return of a spinmaster
1. Reuven Eldar is back in our lives. Eldar, the "Farm Forum" strategist of Ariel Sharon's time, has been appointed strategist of the Zionist Union. This is the man who invented Kadima, the disengagement, the culture of spin. He will be spreading honey on our heads over the next three weeks, and the bees will come, so instead of talking about political or security matters, we will be talking about how much we are getting stung. Eldar was one of the architects of the idea that in order to draw the public's attention away from Ariel Sharon's corruption cases, 25 communities in the southwestern corner of Israel had to be sacrificed and tens of thousands of Jews, with their wives and little children, had to be uprooted.Indeed, we did not. Eldar is a disgrace and shame whom no sane person should listen to.
This act of security suicide, the moral crime and the rift in the nation were marketed as "our children's future." The settlers became the nation's enemies. The rotten apple of expelling Jews was wrapped in declarations of "Israel's security." During Operation Protective Edge, we heard those sirens of "Israel's security" all the way to Tel Aviv. The Bolshevik lie of "a solution for every settler" still echoes among the prefab mobile homes in Nitzan.
Eldar is a genius. It looks like he could sell snow to the people of Gush Etzion. He seems to be convincing us that we can get to "zero elderly poor within a year" if only we take the money from the isolated settlements. By the way, about 100,000 Israelis live in those "isolated settlements" outside the blocs. Oh, did the disengagement cost the Israeli taxpayer 10 billion shekels? Eldar's plan will cost us a hundred billion. To say that it will save money is like saying that the disengagement brought peace and security.
Kadima, the creation of Eldar and Eyal Arad, is one of the most corrupt stories about nothing ever to be seen in Israeli politics. A political party that was founded by publicists, with a vague platform, gathered five senior officials with court convictions for severe felony offenses (Ehud Olmert, Omri Sharon, Tzachi Hanegbi, Avraham Hirschson, Haim Ramon), and fell apart after nine years. The police recommended prosecuting four of the party's senior officials, including the secretary-general and the treasurer.
Anat Goren's documentary film "All the Campaign's Men" shows Eldar and Arad working on the 2006 election campaign. In one meeting, Arad is filmed saying the following: "I am like a shark that smells the blood in the water. Rip Bibi apart. I want to take him down completely. He is bleeding in the water right in front of us. What does a shark do when someone is bleeding in the water? It attacks. It kills him. So let's kill him. We'll put his foot in his mouth (a razor to his throat) and press. People hate Bibi. This is a chance to give it to him as hard as we can and take him down." Welcome back, Reuven Eldar. We truly did not miss you.
