French police on Monday released from custody a retired policeman they had held over the discovery of a fake bomb on board an Air France flight that made an emergency landing in Kenya, prosecutors said.

A passenger alerted crew members to the device found inside a toilet cubicle on Sunday on board the Boeing 777, which was carrying 459 passengers and 14 crew.

I think the police are foolish to just let the joker go, because what he did was not only contempt for the other passengers, it was also a disgrace to his former career. He should by all means be penalized severely for causing everyone so much distress.
