Nafatali Bennett allowed PLO salaries to continue without opposition
The government transferred the full sum of the Palestinian Authority’s tax and tariff funds despite a law requiring it to deduct the amount paid to terrorists and their families, sparking outrage in the Knesset on Wednesday.Certainly this is offensive if they haven't docked payments to jihadists. However, while the government should definitely be called out for the horrific error being made, I think the following Jewish Press report sums up nicely why Bennett's getting what he deserves now that he's no longer in the government:
Likud MK Avi Dichter said "Funds for terrorists are fuel for the terrorist machine against Israel. The war on finance is a war on terror."
"The law isn't a recommendation; the law is a requirement," said Dichter, who proposed what has been nicknamed the "Pay For Slay Law" passed in 2018 to dock terrorist salaries from tax transfers to the PA.
According to the Kan 11 report Tuesday, the offsetting of the blood money from the good money is done at the end of each year, so that the funds the PA paid to terrorists in 2018, when Avigdor Liberman was Defense Minister, were recorded and taken out of the PA’s tax revenue funds. But under DM Benjamin Netanyahu and then DM Naftali Bennett this was not done for the year 2019, because there was no new budget process in 2019, when Israel was being governed by a string of temporary, caretaker governments. And I can assure the writer he's doing the right thing to provide the knowledge. If Bennett didn't provide any data or opposition on the matter at the time he was still in the coalition, it speaks to his apparent irresponsibility, and makes it harder to feel sorry he's out. If he wants to lead an opposition to giving terrorists money, he'd do well to acknowledge he failed his duty early on.
But after all is said and done, according to Kan 11, the culprit was DM Naftali Bennett, now a member of the opposition in the Knesset, who failed to submit a report on the PA salaries at the beginning of 2020. Just thought you should know.
