Israeli couple held hostage in Turkey fortunate to be freed
The Israeli couple detained in Turkey for photographing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's home have returned to Israel.Which he undoubtably started. And who knows what kind of price he exacted for releasing them? This should serve as a vital lesson in the meantime why it's not worth taking tours of Turkey, with the way things are going there. The couple are very lucky to have made it out safely. But it should also make clear that Turkey's venturing further into the darkness of sharia, and that's why it's not a safe place to visit anymore.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister and Prime Minister-designate Yair Lapid said Natalie and Mordy Oknin were en route to Israel in a joint statement early Thursday morning.
Bennett and Lapid also thanked Erdogan for his efforts to secure their release.
A senior diplomatic official told Israel Hayom, "Erdogan's intervention brought the incident to an end."
As soon as Erdogan's office was made aware of the incident, a process that allowed for their release was kicked into motion, according to a diplomatic official. They said Erdogan was personally responsible for the conclusion of the incident.
