Even today, cannabis can be extremely dangerous
The public perception of marijuana use has evolved significantly in the 21st century. A comprehensive 2017 Marist poll revealed that an estimated 54 million U.S. citizens smoke pot, the majority of which claimed to use it regularly. At present, 37 states have legalized marijuana for medical use, and 19 states have legalized it recreationally. As more and more states make recreational marijuana legal, its popularity for other than medical purposes will, likely, proliferate even further. As such, you should know this: it ain't the same weed your grandparents smoked. It's disgraceful, but not shocking, that in an era rife with PC, there'd be only so much of this garbage turning up, with advocates intentionally dismissing all health concerns. Of course, even alcohol consumption is a serious concern, and why anybody drinks that junk is beyond me too. But it does hint how we got to the point where drug usage could get so out of hand. These markets have to be stopped, and one good way to do that is to boycott the alcohol industry for starters. Indeed, what's so great about whiskey that's not so great about apple juice, a favorite of mine? Utterly mystifying. Similarly, you have to wonder why so many moralists have a problem with consensual prostitution, but not with drugs at this point. Even consensual sex is nowhere near as harmful and unhealthy as drug usage is. That's why I'm willing to support legalized prostitution where the lady is in charge, so long as pimps by contrast are not.
The compound in marijuana that gets you "high" is called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). An analysis of pot seized by DEA agents over the years found that the THC potency was about 4% in 1995. By 2017, studies were recording potency up to 17.1% and by 2019, almost 20%. That's an increase of several hundred percent in a little less than 25 years. Other cannabis products, like "hash," can reach levels of 90%.
