Los Angeles devastated by wind-charged wildfires
The Jewish communities in LA suffered from this awful incident that's still ravaging the region, and Christian congregations did too:
Religious buildings were not spared the wrath of the Palisades Fire on Tuesday and Wednesday in Los Angeles, with many churches damaged and destroyed.I hesitate to think what could also have befallen any Buddhist, Hindu and Shinto communities I'm sure maintain a presence in LA too. My condolences to all. Donald Trump has said California governor Gavin Newsom should resign, and he most certainly should. Trump said:
One of the first religious buildings known to have caught alight was the Presbyterian Church on Sunset Boulevard, which burned to the ground — except for the iconic cross tower.
Nearby, the concrete edifice of the Kehillat Israel synagogue was untouched — but the home of Rabbi Daniel Sher was completely destroyed.
The Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the adjoining school appeared to have been barely damaged as well.
Closer to the ocean, the complex housing the Chabad of Pacific Palisades was damaged, but the main synagogue building survived.
Firefighters also battled to save the Lake Shrine, the home of a large and popular spiritual and meditation center known as the Self-Realization Fellowship.
In an earlier post on Wednesday, the president-elect wrote that the devastating wildfires represent Newsom’s and President Joe Biden’s “incompetence and mismanagement”:Newsom refusal to approve the motion is very grave, and now we're seeing the horrible results.
“The fires in Los Angeles may go down, in dollar amount, as the worst in the History of our Country. In many circles, they’re doubting whether insurance companies will even have enough money to pay for this catastrophe,” Trump said on his social media platform. “Let this serve, and be emblematic, of the gross incompetence and mismanagement of the Biden/Newscum Duo. January 20th cannot come fast enough!”
In yet another post aimed at the California governor, Trump called him out for refusing to sign the “water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way.”
Update: Beth Brelje explains how DEI tactics led to the tragedy, and it's also been reported that LA mayor Karen Bass cut funding that could've helped the fire department.
