The sentencing for the Haredi child molestor Malka Leifer has been handed down in an Australian court, and she'll be locked away for 15 years, though with certain reductions based on how much time she spent in prison cells already:

Malka Leifer, the former principal of the Adass Israel School in Melbourne, Australia, was sentenced on Thursday to 15 years behind bars for the sexual abuse of two young high school students.

[...] In handing down the sentence, the judge formally took into account 1,129 days Leifer spent in custody in Israel, during extradition proceedings, and 940 days in custody in Australia.

He also applied a modest reduction in the sentence, taking into account 608 days under house arrest.

That's the only part here that's appalling, that the judge would enable any kind of reduction in the sentence, or emphasize the same, even if she will be locked away for years now. Here's more from the press in Oz:

Malka Leifer, former principal of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish school, has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for sexually abusing two former students.

County Court Judge Mark Gamble imposed a non-parole period of 11½ years, but with time served, Leifer will be eligible for parole in less than six years.

“This case is striking for just how vulnerable these victims were, and for the calculating way in which the offender, Mrs Leifer, took callous advantage of those vulnerabilities in order to sexually abuse them for her own sexual gratification,” Gamble said.

Leifer was found guilty of 18 offences against sisters Elly Sapper and Dassi Erlich between 2003 and 2007.

This suggests she may only end up serving 5 and a half years of her official sentence. And it'll be a shame if it turns out that way. Let's hope the sisters can campaign against her release before a decade goes by. For now, as she serves her sentence in prison, Leifer doesn't deserve kosher food. Seriously. It's absurd people like her, after all the harm they caused, can even adhere to such customs. They're not true Judaists, that's for sure.
