News reports for today

So to begin, let's see what news reports there are from here in the country online that may not be discussed in print.

From the Washington Times/UPI, the Israeli army warns that terrorist cells in Gaza and Judea are planning to resume hostilities after a pullout:
Members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah's Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade "whose commitments are conditional" want to resume fighting, the source said.

The groups are arming, recruiting, training and planning for the next round of fighting, the senior officer said.

Thousands of guns, including Kalashnikov assault rifles and handguns, are smuggled from Egypt into the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Prices have dropped, indicating some of the demand has been met.

Other weapons include rocket-propelled grenades, explosives, anti-tank rockets and probably Strella anti-aircraft missiles, the source said.

Some go to the Gaza Strip and some are smuggled across Israel's Negev desert to the West Bank. They are sold to individual Palestinians or to groups that store them. Hamas has its own smuggling system, the officer said.
For example, the Jerusalem Post reports that Uzi Landau, speaking at a Likud meeting in Ramat Aviv, has said that Ariel Sharon must be toppled from power.

Now it's true that this article points out that Eli Kornfeld has attacked Sharon as responsible in part for police brutality, but at the same time, there's a problem: how often has the JPost reported what Israpundit has, in example, about police brutality against protestors?

That, you see, is the problem with the newspaper, if not the article.

For the record, there is new website called Tiud.Org that's specially dedicated to gathering and disseminating information and to facilitate communication about what is happening on the street, in the courts, and in the detention facilities. It is meant to be a clearinghouse for eyewitness testimony and a database of visual documentary evidence. And, here's some more info if needed on how to deal with the subject by contacting a guy whose job is to "deal with" police brutality.

As discovered by Front Page Magazine's war blog, the terrorists who blew up the train in Madrid had been training in Bosnia:
"The terrorists that carried out the Madrid bombings in March 2004 have been trained at special Al Qaeda based in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The news was broken Tuesday by the chief of the local police department Dragomir Andan at a special press conference. RIA Novosti cited the top police chief as saying that all 11 terrorists left for Spain passing through Sarajevo.

It was also reported that the explosives used in the terror acts were produced in Bosnia."
More on the subject can be found at Novinite.Com.

Israel Insider reports that attacks on Jewish community continue around Gaza, with the Hamas having attacked Kfar Darom on Friday:
The attack began at 3:00 a.m., when three Palestinians firing a mortar at Kfar Darom, followed by hand gun and rifle fire, and anti-tank missiles at IDF soldiers from a U.N. school near the Dir el-Balah neighborhood in Gaza.

According to Col. Moti Kadur, the terrorists could not have made it to the U.N. school without passing a Palestinian Police checkpoint, and said the incident points to active cooperation on the part of the Palestinian police.
And look at that - they even tried to use allegedly deserted school building owned by the UN as their base for assaults!

On Town Hall, Joel Mobray talks about how the subject regarding the Arab Bank's funding of terrorists, is not being taken seriously enough by the State and Treasury Departments, this in spite of the fact that:
Though Arab Bank denies it was ever knowingly involved in terror financing, the public record appears to contradict such assertions. Various jihadist web sites openly raising funds informed prospective donors to direct contributions to numbered accounts at Arab Bank.

But even more openly than that, advertisements in prominent Palestinian newspapers told families of “martyrs”—suicide bombers—to collect money from Arab Bank. One February 2002 ad listed names entitled to receive $5,316.06 from the “Saudi Committee.”

The “Saudi Committee” referenced is likely at least part of the reason that the feds are hustling to shield Arab Bank, despite the wealth of evidence that led to the partial shuttering of the institution’s New York branch.
I most certainly hope that the House Financial Services subcommittee investigating the case can make sure that this will get the proper attention it requires from the State and Treasury departments.

Some more...

Shmuley Boteach says that Sharon is just another broken leader, and he's got a point. And, Caroline Glick points out how the "media mob" have been doing their filthiest to ensure that Israeli society will become a shambles.

Front Page Magazine talks about the ultra-knee-jerk Washington Post's attempt to smear Jewish employees in the Pentagon last year, by saying that Jews with "strong ties to Israel" were spies:
From August 28 through September 3 last fall—one week, from Saturday to Friday—the Post deluged readers with tales of alleged espionage for Israel. The story was sexy: an employee at a branch of the Pentagon headed by a Jew that was supposedly too chummy with Israel had passed classified intelligence to the Jewish state.

The Post didn’t stop there. Over seven days, the paper’s coverage even broadened to report that investigators had “specifically asked about” five named individuals in, or close to, the administration. All were Jews, and the Post reported, all “have strong ties to Israel.”

What the Post omitted was that there was no actual investigation into these five Jews, just they had been “asked about.” About what exactly was also never mentioned.
Which proves that this was more or less some kind of anti-Israelist smear job that the Washington Post was trying to pull. And to say the least, why should it have to be specifically Jews with what they call strong ties to Israel who are working as spies? It's not possible for other groups to do it too?

I wouldn't call what the newspaper pulled "sexy" though. Because truly, it isn't.

Agence France-Press reported that Spain's Islamic Commission issued a fatwa against Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda. Unfortunately, there's one more little thing:
The Commission has also drawn up a document designed to "thank the Spanish people and the government for their attitude towards Muslims" since last March 11, in particular for not taking "disproportionate" measures similar to those which the Sept 11 attacks sparked in the US.
Just what "disproportionate" measures would those be, parchance? Freeing the slaves of at least two of the most sadistic dictatorships in the world, Afganistan and Iraq? Sounds almost like their condemnation of the al Qaeda was in writing and speech only. Spain of course withdrew its support for the raid on Iraq, and even now is not exactly likely to improve much on the long haul.

And why didn't they move to condemn Osama and his army of darkness four years ago when 9-11 first happened? Why only now do they have anything to say? If they were really serious about what they say as reported here, they would've taken steps to set a positive example centuries ago. Doing it now is just simply much too late.

Here's an excellent article on how terrorism is either being dealy with or not from Israel Insider. And here's something to think about as well:
There was never ever any independent Arab "Palestine" or "Palestinians" in existence Biblically, historically, legally, morally and rightfully. When the Romans conquered the "Holy Land", they renamed it based on Philistia, which became "Palestine", in order to insult the rightful owners, the Children of Israel, also known as Hebrews, Israelites, Jews (after the tribe of Judah and the area of Judea) and "Palestinians". Jews are the only legitimate, true-blue Palestinians who have any rightful claim to Palestine.
Well said. I do wonder when say, the BBC will start to take note of that?

The ZOA reports that the bigoted current leader of the PLO, Mahmoud Abbas, intends to release Ahmed Saadat and Fuad Shubaki, who were responsible for what's told in the quote here:
"Saadat is secretary-general of the PFLP and is responsible for the murder of Rehavam Ze’evi, an Israeli Minister and IDF General. Shubaki led the infamous Karin-A weapons ship incident in early 2002. This was a ship loaded with heavy weapons from Iran headed for the PA territories apparently to use against Israel."
One more example of how Abbas has been talking out of multiple sides of his big fat lying mouth.

Little Green Footballs reports that the Rachel Corrie cult, which worships the PLO terrorist supporter who sacrificed her life for the sake of trying to smear Israel, is going to demonstrate against the Caterpillar company that built the bulldozer that she let herlsef be run over by, to protest the sales of bulldozers to Israel.

Can it get any more absurd than this?

The Jerusalem Post reports that antisemitism is once again on the rise in Canada.
According to an annual report released by B'nai Brith Canada's League for Human Rights on Tuesday, anti-Semitism in Canada is at its worst point in more than two decades. A total of 857 incidents were reported in 2004, nearly 47 percent more than the previous year, according to the report. It also said that thenumber of incidents had increased more than three-fold since 2000.
It's an utter disgrace indeed that this kind of horror is going on even in Canada, and something should be done about it ASAP.

On Israel National News, Nathan Sharansky talks about how in Europe, anti-Semitism still seems to be the norm in a couple of ways:

Sharansky warned that the recent edition ofProtocols is now found in bookstores in Paris, London and Amsterdam. "This is the tip of the iceberg of the industry of anti-Semitism that is returning to Europe from the Middle East," the former Soviet refusenik said. " It includes books, movies, cable television programs and internet sites. The bottom line of this propaganda is: The world would be a better place without Jews. The effects of this incitement can be seen on the streets of Europe."

This is but one example of how anti-Semitism and other forms of racism are still rampant in Europe, whose leaders still act incredibly self-righteous, and encourage the same among their citizens. And of course, the "peace process" is also one of the ways in which Europe continues to conduct its anti-Israel/Semitic bias.

If Europe cannot and will not commit itself to truly trying to wipe out prejudiced behavior throughout its continent, what'll be the use of a "minority group" member in even living there?

On March 10, as reported on Israel Insider, the sadistic terrorist Mohammed Abad Alltif was killed after resisting arrest by the IDF.
Halil, 26, was the assistant of a senior Islamic Jihad operative and had taken part in rigging a car with explosives, meant to be detonated at a bus carrying soldiers. The car was uncovered in the Arrabeh area on February 28, 2005.
After he resisted arrest, the authorities had to bulldoze the house he was holed up in. That's strong justice alright, and sends a clear message that murderers of innocent Israelis will be punished severely for their crimes.

Dr. Aaron Lerner writes on Israel Insider that PLO harbored terrorist gangs could exploit "calm for calm" by resorting to the following tactics:
Palestinian forces in the West Bank and Gaza Strip exploit the "calm for calm" period to develop offensive capabilities that dramatically improve their ability to strike strategic Israeli targets and population centers.

Israel pulls out of the strategic Philadelphi Corridor, thus removing the human Israeli "trip wire" that prevents the movement of Egyptian forces from the Sinai into the Gaza Strip (the thin deployment of Israelis can't physically stop a determined Egyptian move -- but their presence has a chilling effect on Egyptian cross border moves since the inevitable Israeli casualties would be a casus belli).
The problem of course, is that, if Israel were to make it clear that the PLO cannot get anything out of them via blackmail, then they'd turn to a political form of resistance by making Israel into a scapegoat:
When, as Oded Granot so aptly put it, the Palestinians come to the conclusion that they cannot get any more out of Israel via diplomatic means, they turn to "resistance" with Israel blamed for not being sufficiently generous.
Thus, Ariel Sharon once again erred ever since he opened his Pandora's Box for disengagement, and is continuing to run the gauntlet by resorting to such ludicrous measures. And that's one more reason as to why he is no longer fit to govern.

On WorldNetDaily, Rene Louis Beres talks about the Israeli premier's dangerous policies of "disengagement" (another propaganda word meant to mislead, BTW).
"Of what use to Israel is the light of reason if there are not enough eyes to see the light, or if those leaders with eyes resolutely keep them shut? The French philosophers liked to speak of a siecle des lumieres, a century of light, but Israel in the early 21st century already remains mired in the bruising darkness. Manipulated shamelessly from official Washington, Prime Minister Sharon now does not dare to know what looming catastrophes are in the making."
As of this writing, I'm glad to say that the Knesset has been trying to approve a public referendum on these issues. Can that help in making it clear to both Sharon, and the world, that the public does not approve of this dangerous policy of our now-outdated statesman?

IMRA reports that two most atrocious terrorist organizations have signed an accord to working together against Israel.

I should hope that maybe Ariel Sharon will take his mind out of the clouds and pay attention to where it's really needed.

From Instapundit, news on censorship currently taking place up in Canada.

I must certainly agree with Mr. Reynolds that this is certainly important news that shouldn't just be overlooked. Thank heavens we got blogs to make sure it won't be.

From one of the ultra-establishment BBC's own reporters, Stephen Sackur, upon his retirement, we find out that he only cared about his job. Just look at this shocker towards the end:
"God this is awful," I said with feeling. "I know," she replied, "there may be thousands dead".

"I don't mean that", I snapped. "I'm talking about me. I'm missing the biggest story of my life."

Every so often my wife reminds me of that shameful sentiment. But she doesn't need to. I haven't forgotten it.

Being a foreign correspondent is the best job in the world as long as you know when to stop. And for me, it's time to stop.
Well, at least he's being honest in how he went about his "business". But yeah, it is time for him to stop. Because if he doesn't, then all we'll have by him are just more and more of just-for-the-money routines, like what the above statements imply.

Hat tip: Arthur Chrenkoff.

To show that they can be clever when they think it avails them, the Hamas leader Khaled Mashal admitted in Cairo last April that it's all just a clever trick if they maintain a cease-fire:
Regarding the lull in violence, Mashal said, "Hamas controls its military wing and it can maintain discipline amongst its people ... The lull for Hamas is tactic of resistance, while for the PA, it's an alternative to resistance."

"No occupation in history disappeared without resistance. Without resistance, negotiation is worthless," he added.
This shows that when they want to, they can control their members to maintain quiet until they think that the balance of power has tipped in their favor. It's a classic trick used ever since Mohammed first tried it on a rival tribe in ancient times, becoming a leading precendent in strategical tactics for many Islamic terrorists in modern times.

According to Melanie Phillips, who I think writes for the UK Mail, the EU has finally admitted that Jew-hatred in Europe is a serious problem.

Too bad that a lot of the rest of the UK media isn't willing to share those concerns though, as indicated in this article.

From the One Jerusalem blog, we discover that the "non-partisan" Rand Corporation has issued the following statement:
"Rejecting the 1967 borders would bring into serious doubt the bias upon which the Palestinians have recognized Israel and have entered into negotiations to end the conflict permanently."
In other words, this so-called outfit is giving credit to the PLO for recognizing Israel when in fact it hasn't. As pointed out by the staff writer for One Jerusalem:
Until this day Palestinian television, Palestinian "religious leaders", and Palestinian textbooks call for the destruction of the State of Israel. Moreover, the repeated demand that Israel recognize the right of return is a sophisticated way of campaigning for the end of the Jewish State. Despite these facts Rand argues that the Israelis must accept a total pull back to 1967.
That's why the Rand Corporation is one more supposedly non-partisan organization that should be avoided at all costs.
