Bravo, Sarkozy!

Nicholas Sarkozy, the French interior minister, is setting a very good example by making efforts to deport the mainly Muslim rioters who were illegal immigrants. The rioting itself may not have fully subsided yet, but so far, the curfews imposed have proven effective, and the police are making every possible effort to protect La Ville des Lumieres just now.

I should hope this'll serve as an important lesson for the country, that multiculturalism simply does not work, mainly because its really just a cover for bringing in people with no genuine respect for the mainstay, and with no genuine willingness to integrate.

Debbie Schlussel warned back in 2002 that a disaster like this could happen, and pointed out that:
"Right now, Islam is the second largest religion in France. There would be nothing wrong with that, if it were a moderate form of Islam, such as Sufism. But the raging anti-Semitism and violent crime-wave of gangs that has accompanied the increase in Muslim immigration and birth in France is illustrative of radical Islam. Don't like the wilding of New York's Central Park thugs, or the gangs of South Central? You ain't seen nothin' yet."
And that's an excellent point. We have to start asking the hard questions if we're to prevent disasters like this from happening, and I should hope that this'll send a clear message to both Israel and France that multiculturalism simply doesn't work if it's going to be used to bring in people adhering to a questionable religion without asking if it's possible that the adherents will go the Trojan horse route.

While we're on the subject, this brings me to something on the other hand that offends me, written by the shady Pat Buchanan on Human Events Online. What's wrong with his viewpoint? It's that he seems to be inciting against the Hispanics, by implying that they're going to destroy the American continent:
"Nor should Americans take comfort in France’s distress. By 2050, there will be 100 million Hispanics in the United States, half of them of Mexican ancestry, heavily concentrated in a Southwest most Mexicans still believe by right belongs to them."
Not so fast, Buchanan, you're obscuring some very important facts, to say nothing short of insulting a community that's far from being the destructive force you seem to think it is. Some points:

The Hispanic community may not be without its share of crime and violence. But in sharp contrast to the Muslim community, the Hispanics do NOT embrace violence and war as a religion like most Islamists do, and their culture is not built on violence and nihilism like Islam is.

In contrast to the Muslims, the Hispanics are much more interested in integration into general public, and I might also point out that they've got much more inspiring ideas and creativity than Islam's ever had.

The site I found this through, Poliblog, also misses the point about France's treatment of its immigrants:
The problem is Europe is plain: not only do the immigrants in question come from countries with different religious values, they also tend to be marginally capitalistic and democratic at best (if at all). But more significantly the French (and the rest of Europe) have isolated (figuratively and literally) there immigrant populations and consider them as second-class persons. They do not seek to welcome them into their culture. Couple that with a welfare state that provides the basics of living, and therefore a culture that sees no problem with making further demands on the state (coupled with 20% unemployment) and disaffection and demands are hardly a surprise.
Sigh. What a shame that this blogger is totally oblivious to the facts: it's the other way around, buster. The Islamists are, simply put, hostile and opposed to French culture, ditto that of many other countries for that matter. Betsy's Page wrote about this a short while ago, presenting an article from the NY Post and which I posted here too the other week, and in Amir Taheri's article, the following was said:
In parts of France, a de facto millet system is already in place. In these areas, all women are obliged to wear the standardized Islamist "hijab" while most men grow their beards to the length prescribed by the sheiks.

The radicals have managed to chase away French shopkeepers selling alcohol and pork products, forced "places of sin," such as dancing halls, cinemas and theaters, to close down, and seized control of much of the local administration.
Now I ask, is that what's called being tolerant of other cultures, if what those Islamofascists are going to do is to is muscle in on the very society that invited them to come live in the country and, I might add, was also paying them child allowance welfare benefits, by forbidding store owners from being able to sell their goods and even the public to enjoy some good entertainment? And is that what's called being tolerant if they're going to be oppressive of women by forcing them not only to wear hijabs, but also by forcing them into positions below that of the men?

On another note, these riots in France seem to have influenced Arabs in Israel from the town of Isawiya to perform yet another riot in Israel (and vice versa), this time by burning a car near the Mt. Scopus Hospital:
A Palestinian was shot and wounded Wednesday evening during a police chase after a stolen car in the town of Isawiya near the French Hill in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian car thief later died of his wounds in the hospital.

Afterwards, a crowd of Arab youths from Isawiya attempted to reach the gates of the University campus on Har Hatzofim, burning a car near Hadassah Har Hatzofim Hospital, Israel Radio reported.

According to police the university gates had been closed for precautionary reasons, but added that the situation was under control.

The gates were later reopened.
As the blogger through whom I got this article says:
"Someone care to tell the Arabs that this is Israel and not France?"
Caroline Glick's got a new article now explaining why Israel should care about what happens in France. It's very good.

i HATWE to say it but buchanan is right: mecha and other aztlan groups WILL do what the banlieue arabs did.

this is NOT a racist charge; it is what they avow.

we need to demand assimilation and to make english the official language of the USA.

"to deport Muslim rioters who were illegal immigrants."

Did he really limit this threat to Muslims?

I don't think he did. And the fact is that not only Muslim illegal immigrants are rioting.

You are blaming the riots on the religion of Islam. Please check out our quote of John Rosenthal's criticism. Thanks.

You're right, it's not just the Muslim residents of France who pulled those crimes, there were quite a few others from places like Nigeria who also took part. I'll see if I can edit that a bit.
