Shimon Peres, who did something a lot of lefties seem to be doing just now, which is moving to another party after losing primary elections in the previous one, may have taken illegal funding from foreign sources:

Israel's State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss launched an investigation Saturday into suspicions that MK Shimon Peres broke campaign finance laws, accepting illegal donations from foreign sources.

Peres received $320,000 for the Labor Party primaries, which he lost to Amir Peretz despite polls predicting a landslide in his favor.

The donations, far in excess of the 36,000 shekel (approximately $8,000) per donor allowed by law, came from billionaire Chaim Saban, S. Daniel Abraham and Swiss billionaire Bruce Rappaport.

The State Comptroller refused to release the details of the investigation, but his office released a statement saying, "The comptroller views with great severity what transpired during the primaries, certainly without referring specifically to Shimon Peres." A spokeswoman said the investigation is ongoing and has not yet concluded.

Well waddaya know, Haim Saban, that silly would-be animation producer, was one of the donors too! With that knowledge, let me assure the investigators that there be no hurry to release any more details, since Saban is certainly telling enough for now! My my, what a phony Saban is, and this certainly gives some additional confirmation to that.
