Well, if this letter presented by Michael Leeden at National Review (via Oraculations) is any indication, yes, Bush's administration was well aware of how the German government recently released Hezbollah terrorist Muhammad Ali Hammdi, who tortured and murdered US Navy diver Robert Dean Stethem two decades ago, and yet, they did nothing to protest the German government's actions.
Thank goodness there are indeed plenty of conservatives, as possibly opposed to liberals, who know why it helps to maintain an awareness to what their elected leaders are doing. Nevertheless, I would strongly advise any conservative who hasn't been taking note of such weaknesses shown by conservative governments to start taking notice. Because only when the right fully understands that even so-called conservatives can betray their electorate will we be able to do something about it.
Update: Debbie Schlussel also comments on the topic, and is quite right that Dubya should not be welcoming German PM Angela Merkel to the White House.
