Debbie Schlussel brings to our attention the case of a US district attorney who's being persecuted for bringing terrorists to justice. Yes, you read that right. Richard Convertino has been targeted in the past three years for the fact that he criticized the US Justice Department for not fighting terrorism effectively enough, and for that, it seems that they've exacted revenge - NOT justice - against him. Here's an excerpt of what his wife, Valerie Convertino, has to tell about what's been happening in the Detroit Free Press:

What a shame the administration of President George W. Bush isn't as tough on terrorism as it is about exacting revenge upon honest citizens who speak out against its policies.

Take the witch-hunt against my husband, former U.S. Attorney Richard Convertino, who successfully prosecuted a Detroit terrorism sleeper cell. He then voiced his frustrations with the ineffectiveness of the U.S. Justice Department's handling of terrorism cases and has endured almost three years of retaliation at a cost to American taxpayers of several million dollars.

The "mean machine" is out of control and refuses to admit it . . . . [T]he government has subpoenaed Rick's high school, college and law school records.

What's next? Will they subpoena a list of books he has checked out from the library or the movies we rent for family movie night?

This reminds me of when the Israeli police, back in 1999, just shortly after Benjamin Netanyahu's election loss, went and persecuted not only him but also his own wife Sara, on trumped up accusations of supposedly taking gifts against state laws, and ended up making the law system in Israel look truly ridiculous.

Let's be clear that this is not how law and order are meant to be conducted, and it's simply absurd that alleged lawmakers should be going out of their way spending tons of money on trivial pursuits when such funds can and should be used for better things is simply unacceptable, and a waste of many good citizens' tax dollars. So I too am giving a call for joining the defense of Richard Convertino against these loony bins. Here's where you can go to donate to his Legal Defense Fund. If this type of persecution is allowed to continue, law and order will be rendered a joke and end up badly damaged.
