Beltway Snipers were motivated by Islam
The Beltway Snipers, John Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo, were motivated by Islam after all, as the latter explained when testifying before a Maryland jury in the following report on CNN (via IRIS Blog):
Malvo also told the jury in his testimony:
ROCKVILLE, Maryland (CNN) -- Lee Boyd Malvo told a Maryland jury Tuesday that John Allen Muhammad "made me a monster" who aided in the 2002 sniper killings that terrorized the Washington, D.C., area. The above quote was the notorious quote by spoken by Malcolm X during the time of the Kennedy assasination.
Testifying in Muhammad's murder trial, Malvo, 21, outlined the meticulous planning behind the killings, including how his former mentor turned an aging Chevrolet into a shooting platform.
He said Muhammad wanted to "terrorize" the nation's capital. He quoted Muhammad as saying, "'The chickens come home to roost.'"
Malvo also told the jury in his testimony:
He said Muhammad put him on a strict, one-meal-a-day diet of soy burgers and soup -- "in accordance with the teachings of the Nation of Islam"...."The white man is the devil."....It seems however, that John Muhammed is still only on death row for his crimes, and hasn't been executed yet. Will he be after this?
He said he and Muhammad had long talks about religion, history, society and his school work. "He introduced me to the Nation of Islam," Malvo testified.
"Bloodshed begets bloodshed" was how Muhammad explained the September 11, 2001, attacks, Malvo testified. He added that Muhammad told him that the United States taught Osama bin Laden to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan "and it came home."
"He hates this country," Malvo said.
