FBI thwarts terror attack planned in Chicago

And it seems that the jihadist who was arrested planned the attack using hand grenades that he could detonate in garbage cans. From CBS2 Chicago (via Hot Air):
(CBS) CHICAGO A 22-year-old Rockford man with an ambition to become a terrorist has been arrested by federal authorities on allegations that he planned to set off grenades in garbage cans in a mall in Rockford.

Derrick Shareef, of Rockford, was arrested on Wednesday by FBI agents from the Chicago Joint Terrorism Task Force, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

He was arraigned on the charges early Friday afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez.

Shareef was apprehended after meeting with an undercover agent in a Rockford store parking lot to trade a set of stereo speaksers for four hand grenades and a handgun, the U.S. Attorney's office said.
Read the rest. It's clear that the threat of terrorist attacks in the US is still quite real. The suspect is a convert to Islam and was influenced by jihadist websites, and it appears that he even made a videotaped will of himself in anticipation of martyrdom.

Others on the case include Michelle Malkin, Cao's Blog, Assorted Babble, The Jawa Report, JunkYardBlog, Stop the ACLU, Iowa Voice, Blogs of War, Red State American.
