Oil by US shores should be free to drill for

If the Republicans are smart, they'll make this a major issue in the coming election. Rep. John Peterson tried to get this bill through that could open up US shores for exploration for oil drilling, but it has been blocked by Democrats so far. As Peterson says:
"For 27 years, Congress has deliberately locked-up vast offshore oil and natural gas reserves," Peterson said. "With the price at the pump increasing daily — with no end in sight — and the cost of natural gas trading at record levels, Congress needs to unlock these reserves."
Unfortuately, as mentioned, the Dems have sabotaged things again (H/T: The American Thinker), to show only how much, in my mind, they really care for good economy. And look what else they did:
Democrats held their own series of events on Capitol Hill Wednesday to focus attention on global warming and energy independence, but drilling is not on the agenda. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Tuesday ongoing calls for more drilling "is the Johnny One-Note of the Republican Party."
When you see that they're concerned about global warming, you know something's wrong.

We cannot be forced to rely on oil from Saudi Arabia and Russia anymore. It's only costing many people far too much money, and the time has come to do what can help bring prices down.

The Republicans have said they'll keep pressing with the issue (via Michelle Malkin). I should hope they'll transform it into a major election issue as well, which might help save them from terrible election results. In fact, I hope John McCain will let them do so too. The time has come.
