Bloomingburg votes against selling school building to Satmar
MOUNT HOPE — By an overwhelming majority, voters defeated the proposed sale of a former school building in a special election on Tuesday.Say NO to Satmar and their socialist, anti-Israel mindset, that's what I say! Some of the commentors make pretty good arguments why Satmar are such an awful bunch, including this one who's responding to an apologist using the anti-semitism card:
Town residents spoke resoundingly against the sale of the old Otisville Elementary School to an ultra-Orthodox Jewish congregation in a landslide vote, 1,334-23. The town has 3,291 registered voters, said Orange County Board of Elections Commissioner Susan Bahren.
You may be aware of a community in Rockland County known as East Ramapo where the Hasidic community has occupied former public school buildings for years. Since their occupancy the buildings have deteriorated and the property is weed ridden. One building is being leased now and the Hasidic tenants are months behind in paying the rent. Another recent sale to a Hasidic school was overturned by the state after it was learned the sale price was low balled by an assessor paid off by the very Hasidic buyer. Based on these past practices and poor neighborly behavior why would anyone want them as neighbors? And also:
As for WHY people voted NO SALE, that is their right to vote for whatever reason; it is their building. Take a ride through KJ and report back how many of their homes have been sold to Christians, reformed Jewish and minority populations. What makes it legitimate for KJ to control who lives in THEIR community based on religion? Apparently it is OK for KJ officials to regulate who buys and owns property. The Hasidic community can not have it both ways; to regulate who lives in their community, but expect to be allowed to do what they want in other communities.
Sorry but I feel traumatized by what I have witnessed of the Satmar Hasidic community of Kiryas Joel in Monroe. Their isolationist approach to life is not unique but unlike the Amish communities, Satmar settlements depend on the financial support of the federal, state and local governments. After witnessing what I believe to be voter fraud on a large scale in the last Monroe Town Board election, I can understand how people can be afraid of what the future can bring with more Hasidic settlements which will require evermore financial support from their neighbors who are struggling hard working residents of the nearby towns, villages and hamlets. The Satmar 'single' mothers are expected to have far more children than they can possibly support while we are called anti-semetic for objecting to this situation which is only getting worse with the explosive growth of these settlements. There's definitely something wrong when the Amish set a good example by farming while Haredis like Satmar otherwise fail to do the same. Also, this is a lot different from Israeli "settlements" where people do have jobs and try to make livings with agriculture of their own, and even with factories like Sodastream. In contrast to Israeli "settlements" the Satmar enclaves are not setting good examples at all. It's about time anyone with a brain in the American Jewish community spoke out against Satmar and demanded a stop to this situation, which is causing embarrassment that any sensible US Jew should disassociate themselves from.
