Shalom Lamm associate charged with assault
Duane Roe Jr., the former supervisor of the Town of Mamakating, is facing a second-degree harassment charge after he allegedly knocked community activist Andy Weil to the sidewalk in Ellenville on Friday morning. This really made me sigh in disapproval. So Lamm's got a crony with a very short fuse, I see. I would think this can weigh against Lamm in turn, and Roe better get some time in the clink for causing the other guy pain over nothing. What a sick jerk.
Ellenville Police Chief Phil Mattracion said Roe told Weil, "Don't you ever put me or my daughter's name on Facebook."
Second-degree harassment is a violation. Mattracion said Roe will be contacted by his office and can expect to be issued an appearance ticket.
Roe could not be reached for comment.
Roe is a developer who has been associated with Shalom Lamm, whose efforts to build the 396-unit Chestnut Ridge Hasidic development in the village of Bloomingburg has provided the town with years of controversy. Weil has been active in opposing the development.
Weil said he was leaving Ace Hardware on Route 209 when Roe approached him from his truck, which was parked nearby.
"I said, 'Hey, Duane, how you doing' and he lunged at me and threw me to the ground, screaming at me," Weil said.
Weil said Roe threw him to the ground a second time and threatened to beat him.
Mattracion said it appeared Weil suffered a possible contusion to his wrist.
