Terrorist attack thwarted in downtown Jerusalem

Thanks to the observance of an alert security guard, a potential terrorist attack was stopped:
A terrorist attack on the Jerusalem light rail was thwarted Sunday morning, thanks to an observant security guard.

The guard spotted a Palestinian youth carrying what was described as a "suspicious looking bag," trying to board the light rail at its station on the corner of King George Street and Jaffa Road in Jerusalem -- one of the busiest intersections in the capital.

According to Channel 2 News, the security guard approached the man and asked to inspect the bag. He spotted what looked like an explosive device and alerted the police.

A large police force arrived at the scene within minutes, along with police sappers. Upon further inspection, the bag was found to contain several pipe bombs. The suspect, in his 20s, is in police custody.

The area was cordoned off and police sappers proceeded to neutralize the explosives.
The area was once the site of another terrorist attack in the mid-90s. The guard should be congratulated for his alertness, which made sure another one didn't happen.
