US will move embassy to Jerusalem sooner than thought, to coincide with 70th independence anniversary
It looks like the American embassy will be moved sooner than expected to Jerusalem, around the same time Independence Day will be celebrated for its 70th year:
The Trump administration will formally move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv in May to coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary. It's better than expected, and a good way to send important messages about why Jerusalem matters.
“We’re planning to open the new U.S. Embassy to Israel in Jerusalem in May,” a State Department spokesman told JTA in an email. “The Embassy opening will coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary.”
The spokesman did not reveal a specific date, but May 14 would mark 70 years since Israel’s establishment.
