Why does Simone Veil qualify for a spot in the Pantheon?
Holocaust survivor Simone Veil, one of France's most revered politicians, is getting the rare honor of being buried at the Pantheon, where French heroes are interred, one year after her death.Just what kind of unification did she advocate? The kind that brought disaster unto many European nations with terrible border controls, Islamic terrorism and other stuff she never protested or condemned? As I stated earlier, she did a terrible disservice to France and the Jewish community alike, and embarrassed Holocaust survivors by making it look like she, if anybody, had no caring for life (Update: as this article notes, public opinion was divided). I don't see why somebody that irresponsible and poorly educated deserves the honor of being placed at the Pantheon, nor why even some Jewish reps are going out of their way to laud her like she never did anything wrong as a politician. She was an example of somebody who never acted responsibly so that "never again" could have meaning, and now, look where they've gotten to, brought down to a hellhole. It's very sad this is the kind of person they think earned a spot in such a prominent location.
Veil was being inhumed Sunday at the Paris monument with her husband Antoine, who died in 2013, in a symbolic ceremony with her family and dozens of dignitaries, including French President Emmanuel Macron and former presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande.
Veil repeatedly broke barriers for women in French politics. She was a firm believer in European unification and well known in France for spearheading the legalization of abortion.
