Turkey despises France's Armenian Holocaust Memorial Day
France is marking its first national day of commemoration of the Armenian genocide on Wednesday, a remembrance of the more than 1.5 million Armenians who were systematically exterminated between 1915 and 1923 under the Ottoman Empire.Look who's ranting. A monster who sees nothing wrong with destroying life. It's miraculous France upheld this vital memorial ceremony, because that's one of the ways we need to stand up against Islamofascism. Even so, Macron's still a bad lot.
The event fulfills a pledge made by French President Emmanuel Macron on his election and has angered the Turkish government. France’s recognition of the massacre as a genocide was enshrined in law in 2001, following a lengthy struggle that has strained relations with Turkey, however now Macron has moved it to the forefront of French political life.
[...] Macron’s announcement in February that France would officially commemorate the slaughter drew an angry response from Ankara, with a spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan angrily declaring: “No one can sully our history.”
Armenians in the USA have also been commemorating the anniversary in Washington, and pointing out Turkey's support for ISIS:
Armenian-Americans waving flags and chanting, “Turkey supports ISIS,” marked the anniversary of the Ottoman Empire’s genocide of some 1.5 million Armenians outside the Turkish embassy in Washington, DC, on Wednesday. It's high time to impose sanctions against Turkey for their modern support for terrorism as much as for their refusal to admit to their past guilt.
More than 100 years later, protesters said they are still seeking justice and international recognition of what some call the “Armenian Holocaust” in the nation’s capital and in cities across the country and around the world.
In D.C., protesters said they are speaking out against Muslim majority Turkey and its president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for his refusal to recognize the mass killings, which began on April 24, 1915.
