Falsifications of Orthodox Judaism don't help one bit
The Coalition for Jewish Values today released a statement renouncing efforts to identify those who endorse deviance from Torah practices as "Orthodox rabbis." The "Statement on Orthodoxy," signed by 250 rabbinic leaders thus far, emphasizes that "Orthodox Judaism" is a well-established synonym for traditional Jewish observance, and that even those with authentic rabbinic ordination remove themselves from Orthodoxy if they later, in the statement's words, "spurn what the Torah requires."I would only dispute whether it's such a big deal if women serve as rabbis, if only because there has been such a thing as a rebbetzin, and it is practiced even in Orthodox circles. But the argument against normalizing homosexuality within religious practices is a valid one. I just hope those who say they're concerned realize that the way the Satmar, for example, approach religion with gender segregation concepts is one of the reasons why it can occur more easily in religious communities as much as in secular ones. And I'd advise not to go overboard with all this abstinence buffoonery, when education for safe sex can possibly be even more helpful. If you want to be a modern Orthodox, consider also that in biblical times, people weren't always as prudish as some might think, and that this could provide something to learn from as well.
Rabbi Dov Fischer, Western Regional Vice President of the CJV, led the drafting of this letter. "There has been a long-running falsification, advanced jointly by certain clergy and left-wing Jewish media, asserting that Orthodox Judaism can be stretched to accommodate any and all politically correct social trends," he explained. "We now go on the record, rabbonim [Orthodox rabbis] who simply cannot remain silent any longer, to penetrate through the grievous misrepresentation and to clarify to the general public what is Orthodox and who is — and who is not — an Orthodox rav [rabbi]."
A recent story in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency claimed that "A small but growing number of Orthodox rabbis are officiating same-sex weddings." Other individuals, schools and groups claiming to be Orthodox have ordained women as rabbis and challenged the Divine origin of Torah.

The rebbetzin is the rabbi's wife. She has no training in religious law and no certification of learning. She can be very helpful to her husband and her community, as are many, or she can not be. She is not a female equivalent of a rabbi.
