Ammo's got some interesting history on marine Lt. Colonel Jeff Cooper, the World War 2 veteran who originally founded the Gunsite Acedemy foundation, which was first named the American Pistol Institute, and was a great expert on rifles as well. A guy with a very impressive resume.
