Oxford university replaces St. George holiday with Muslim Eid
An Oxford college has been accused of trying to “cancel” a dinner in honour of the Christian patron saint of England in favour of an Islamic holiday.Well, it's sad but hardly a shock such a leftist-run bastion would end up doing this. Andrea Widburg says:
This year, Magdalen College, a 15th-century constituent college of the University of Oxford, will not hold a dinner on April 23rd to celebrate the feast day of St George, the Christian patron saint of England.
Instead, according to London’s Daily Telegraph newspaper, Magdalen will hold a formal dinner to mark the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr — the official end of the holy month of Ramadan — despite the festival day actually coming two days earlier on the 21st.
This is not the first time England has turned on its own traditions or officially celebrated Muslim ones. It’s notable only because the college was once a bastion of British Christian tradition. But in many ways, Great Britain, aside from being a victim of the leftism that was an undercurrent beginning at the turn of the last century and became official government policy starting after World War II, is also being colonized by its former empire. [...]When it comes to ideology, the Religion of Peace is what's really concerning, along with the sad staple of LGBT ideology seen in the past decade, though when Islam takes over the UK, that's apparently the only thing they're willing to relinquish it for. It's stupefying how leftist activists put everyone between a rock and a hard place with ideologies like those.
Once, Great Britain went to other countries in her “empire” and imposed her values on them. Now, citizens of those former parts of the “empire” have come to Great Britain and, institution by institution, are imposing their values on her—or at least the Muslim immigrants are. It is, in a very real way, a case of “The Empire Strikes Back.”
