Haredi yeshiva teacher accused with sexual assault and fraud after leading double life on dating site
The Israel Police released Thursday the profile pictures of a Jerusalem yeshiva rabbi arrested on suspicion of rape through fraud, after posing as a secular Jew to seduce women on Tinder.I have no idea if his actions were genuinely rape, but it certainly was wrong of him to deceive them in what sounds like a case of bigamy, and adultery. Here's some more details:
His real photo and the one he used on dating apps was released by Israeli police so that more victims could come forward, after they may have been duped into having sex with the married man. He was remanded in custody for five days.
The suspect, Rabbi Yosef Mordechai Paryzer, is a 35-year-old American citizen who teaches at a yeshiva for foreign students in Jerusalem. He is married with two children, but deceived women online that he was someone else.
He told his victims that he was interested in a long-term relationship, but in reality he was only looking for sex as a married man with children and, as a result, assaulted several of them under false pretenses.
The case came to light in part thanks to a confrontation that the victims decided to organize together, which resulted in one of the women who had been in contact with the rabbi inviting him to her home, where several other of his victims were waiting for him.
"Consensual sex performed under false pretenses, ie. false identity of the perpetrator, is a criminal offense that is legally defined as rape," the group of women posted on social media as part of a warning message and statement.
All together, seven women have filed complaints, and the police are looking for other possible victims. On his profile, created with the fictitious names of Jake Segal or Jake Westman, the man claimed to be a trainer of guide dogs.
While Segal presented himself as mostly secular and single and made promises of long-term relationships, marriage, and starting a family, he was in fact a married father and a rabbi working at a Jerusalem yeshiva. In other words, he may have been trying to build up a framework for a bigamy scheme. And in this article, it says:
“Jake Segal” is the alter ego of Rabbi Yosef Paryzer. Paryzer is a foreign citizen in his 30s who worked at Yeshivat Ohr Yerushalayim as a lecturer for first-year students. The Anglo-centric yeshiva reportedly fired Paryzer upon hearing the news about him and removed his profile from their website. His short biography described him as in “high demand from other yeshivos” and as an alumnus of New York’s Yeshiva Darchei Torah and Jerusalem’s Yeshiva Kodshim.
Rabbi Yosef Mordechai Pariser is suspected of multiple sexual offenses, including rape and sexual assault by fraud, by contacting women on the dating app Tinder using a fake profile. Furthermore, he is also suspected of fraudulently obtaining benefits and obstructing justice. If he was trying to rip off money from the women, that's very serious. And overall, this case demonstrates how there's Haredi men who're willing to pretend otherwise for the sake of cheap gratification, something even Muslim men can do. Something tells me, however, that a Haredi woman couldn't get away with stuff like this as easily as menfolk could. Which would just demonstrate how male supremacy's still a huge problem.
