Tel-Chai Nation

Israel, much like the fortress of Tel-Chai that Jospeh Trumpeldor fought to defend against Arab conquerors in 1920, finds itself beseiged by enemies both within and without. Terrorists, would-be friends inside and outside Israel, and even bad government officials. Here are the discussions of one proud Zionist resident on the state of the nation and abroad.

A few days ago, near the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem, the following abomination occurred:
Activists torched dumpsters and tires near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Jerusalem, with the fires accidentally burning an IDF reservist’s car. The incident led to condemnations from across the political spectrum, with Netanyahu himself saying the protesters acted “like fascists.”

Wednesday’s blazes, which caused locals to be evacuated from their homes, were ignited on the morning of a “Day of Disruption” calling for the government to negotiate a deal to release the 48 hostages held by terror groups in Gaza. Other groups of protesters gathered on Wednesday morning and a series of rallies was held throughout the day.

Organizers of those demonstrations disavowed the fires, though Netanyahu’s allies were quick to link the blazes to the protest, and accused Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara of “selective enforcement” of the law. Opposition lawmakers likewise condemned the fires, while also condemning the government for not striking a hostage deal.

Masked activists lit the fires early in the morning, causing recycling bins and tires to go up in flames in Jerusalem’s Rehavia and Givat Ram neighborhoods as residents were waking up and beginning their day. Police said in a statement that the fires damaged several cars and that residents were evacuated from nearby buildings, though nobody was hurt.

A car burned in the fires belonged to a couple, Maj. (res.) Yoav Bar Shai and Tamar Bar Shai, who have three young children, including three-month-old twins. The father of the family has served over 250 days of reserve duty in the IDF and is set to head to Gaza for another tour next week following the latest mass round of call-ups.

“Our car is gone. We support the hostages and the families, but this causes hate,”
the mother, Tamar Bar Shai, was quoted as saying by Channel 12 news.

Speaking to the Ynet news site, Bar Shai said three car seats for the children were burnt, after her husband tried to move the car before it went up in flames.

“The tree started to catch on fire and the whole building adjacent to us was evacuated. People were taken out to the street in their underwear due to the danger,”
she said, lamenting that she would have to drop off her kids at daycare on foot this week.
Would the vandals who caused this have done this to a mosque? If not, that proves they were going after easy targets, and not really rallying for the sake of the hostages, nor do they actually want the Hamas taken down. They were only looking for a repellent excuse to commit violence for fun. And that's sick. Now, look how it led to a family losing their vehicle for transporting children to school.

An investigation was launched:
Israeli politicians and police on Wednesday condemned the torching of an Israel Defense Forces reservist’s car in Jerusalem earlier in the day by anti-government activists.

Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin called the incident “terrorism,” and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) has launched an investigation into the matter. [...]

Protesters lit tires and garbage cans at several spots in the area on Wednesday, with residents reporting that “several points were set alight at once—the house could have burned down.” Video documentation appeared to show another arson attack in the same neighborhood.

Thirteen protesters who climbed onto the roof of the National Library were arrested.

“This is criminal activity under the cover of protest—the fire that was set required the evacuation of residents so they would not be harmed, and the burning of vehicles caused property damage. This is crossing a red line; these are lawbreakers behaving like criminals,”
said police.

“What happened this morning is terrorism,” said Levin, adding, “And there are also senior partners in responsibility—the ousted attorney general who dictates criminal selective enforcement, and the Supreme Court justices who stand by her.”
The reason this is being told is because the "legal specialists" whom they speak of haven't done anything convincing to enforce the law against such vile thugs. And who knows if this'll ever be mended?

The IDF reservist who owned the car doesn't want to use any donations he was given himself though, preferring to donate them in turn to soldiers in need of medical attention:
Yoav Bar-Shai, an IDF reservist whose car was set on fire by left-wing protesters, has emphasized that he does not support the anti-government protest.

During the Wednesday morning demonstration, protesters set fire to garbage bins near the Prime Minister's residence in Jerusalem, aiming to create a "ring of fire" around the area.

According to Bar-Shai, the protest spokespeople attributed statements to him that he never made. Bar-Shai also announced that he is forgoing the donations collected for him by protest activist Yaya Fink.

“For an entire day, my phone and my wife’s haven’t stopped ringing. Our car was burned as a result of arson by protesters, and since then we’ve entered a world we don’t recognize. The world of media. An entire world made up partly of good people, but partly, unfortunately, made up of people who distort reality,” Bar-Shai said.

He also said that he visited the hostages’ families’ tent after being invited by Anat Angrest, mother of hostage Matan Angrest. “I told them they didn’t need to apologize to me, and I understand that this isn’t their way,” he recounted.

Bar-Shai clarified that a subsequent statement falsely attributed support for the protest to him: “After the meeting, a message was released by the spokespeople or PR team without my knowledge or consent, from those who offer media coverage for the protest, and in it they put just words in my mouth as if I supported the protest.”

“It’s important for me to say that I am filled with hope and faith that the hostages will return. I will put on my uniform again soon to help make that happen, but I am not part of the protest and I do not support it. In my view, this is not the way,” he said.
That's something for which the PR people owe a huge apology to the reservist, and many others too. If the demonstrators really want to prove this act doesn't speak for them, they'll stay far away from the neighborhood, period.
