NY Times pushes Hamas for sainthood
Ever the apologist for terrorism that they are, the ultra-establishment NY Times tries to portray the Hamas terrorist gang as goodies:
And it does little good for reporter James Bennet and company at the NYT to say that the PLO's Fatah is secular when this very same newspaper is completely tolerant of Iran's own Islamofascist rulership, and supports it as well. At the same time, are they trying to bolster the chances of Hamas taking over from where the PLO left off?
Israel's evacuation of its Gaza settlements has touched off a fierce political campaign here, and its outcome may determine whether Mr. Abbas can succeed in governing and eventually making peace. Hamas and Mr. Abbas's more secular faction, Fatah, are jostling for position in municipal elections in coming months and legislative elections planned for Jan. 25, the first that Hamas has ever said it would enter. This, of course, is a lie, and looking at it now, it appears that they're trying to resort to a trick used to portray Saddam Hussein in the past few years as "secular". Which is not true either, since, while he may not have ruled under militant Islamic law in his time, Saddam was still a follower of Islam, more or less, and his motives stemmed from jihad, of course.
Mr. Abbas is trying to contain Hamas within the Palestinian political system and ultimately to take its weapons away. Hamas, a far more disciplined, methodical movement than Fatah, wants to strengthen its hold on Palestinian society.
