(CBS) NEW YORK A four-story building at 32 East 62nd Street in Manhattan exploded this morning and collapsed this morning. The fire has now moved to a fifth alarm. The White House says that this was not a terrorist attack. But how do we know that for sure? If you ask me, a gas canister could actually make a perfect decoy, there's no way to tell. So I hope that they'll be conducting a convincing investigation to figure out what happened.
The Office of Emergency Management originally reported that on person was killed but later clarified their statement. Six people reportedly have been injured.
Two people on the street were injured and were taken to New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Their injuries are are reported as minor. One firefighter also was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. One person was pulled alive from the rubble. The extent of the other victims' injuries are not known.
Con Edison was investigating the smell of gas in the area at the time of the explosion this morning.
Hundreds of firefighters and rescue workers are on scene at what FDNY officials are calling this a "major incident."
