More about the German white supremacist gunman at the US Holocaust Museum
The suspect in Wednesday’s shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is James von Brunn, an 88-year-old white supremacist from Maryland, two law enforcement officials told CNN.It's tragic to report that the heroic security guard he shot has died. Please keep Stephen Tyrone Johns in your prayers.
Von Brunn served six years in prison on federal attempted kidnapping, assault and firearms charges after what he called a citizen’s “legal, nonviolent citizens arrest” of members of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
On his Web site, “Holy Western Empire,” von Brunn said he was “convicted by a Negro jury, Jew/Negro attorneys, and sentenced to prison for eleven years by a Jew judge.”
“He is in our files going back way into the 1980s,” said Heidi Beirich, a researcher for the Montgomery, Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center.
“He has extremely long history with neo-Nazis and white supremacists. He’s written extremely incendiary publications, raging about Jews, blacks and the like.”
The suspect and a security guard were wounded in Wednesday afternoon’s shooting at the museum, U.S. Park Police said.
District of Columbia police and the FBI said the shooting appeared to have been the work of a single gunman and there was no prior indication of the attack.
Now, here's where it becomes even more lurid: the culprit was a 9-11 Truther type who hated conservatives:
The man accused of opening fire at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC on June 10, James W. von Brunn, left a trail of unhinged writings around the internet. There's a case to be made that, if there's any white racists around today, it's likely to be on the far-left, as the creepy von Brunn's actions suggest.
The anti-semitism of von Brunn is the first thing one notices when visiting these bizarre websites. However, like those of most “white supremacists”, many of von Brunn’s political views track “Left” rather than “Right.” Clearly, a re-evaluation of these obsolete definitions is long overdue.
For example, he unleashed his hatred of both Presidents Bush and other “neo-conservatives” in online essays. As even some “progressives” such as the influential Adbusters magazine publicly admit, “neoconservative” is often used as a derogatory code word for “Jews”. As well, even a cursory glance at “white supremacist” writings reveals a hatred of, say, big corporations that is virtually indistinguishable from that of anti-globalization activists.
James von Brunn’s advocacy of 9/11 conspiracy theories also gives him an additional commonality with individuals on the far-left.
Also important to note is that von Brunn was anti-Christian. Indeed, as the years have gone by and I read more about these repugnant characters, they do seem to be as hostile to Christianity as they are to Jews and Judaists.
Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch also notes:
The Aryan Nations has stated: "Islam is our ally, and the 1500 cults all claiming to be 'Christian' are our opposition."These details too are something very important to remember.
Note also that white supremacist David Duke has traveled to Syria to express his support for the jihad against Israel.
And remember that in World War II, the Mufti of Jerusalem, Hajj Amin Al-Husseini, allied with Hitler and recruited a Muslim SS division.
Update: Michelle Malkin also discovers that von Brunn hated FOX News. And, he may have even thought of targeting the Weekly Stardard staff. According to Politico:
FBI agents visited the offices of the conservative Weekly Standard magazine yesterday after a shooting at the Holocaust Memorial Museum and told employees they’d found the magazine’s addressOthers on the subject include Hot Air, The Anchoress, Frugal Cafe Blog Zone, Suzy Rice, Prudence Ponder, Q and O, Moe Lane, Red State, Right Angles, Wellsy's World, Scared Monkeys.
A senior Standard staffer confirmed the visit but declined to discuss it in detail. An FBI spokeswoman, Katherine Schweit , also declined to comment on the investigation.
Two other sources said two FBI agents arrived shortly after 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the 17th Street offices of the magazine. They told staffers that they had found the address of the magazine on a piece of paper associated with the shooter, James von Brunn, and asked whether the Standard had received any threats.
The magazine is about a mile north of the Holocaust Museum, and there’s no other indication that von Brunn had targeted it. Von Brunn’s published rants included attacks on “neocons,” and the Standard has been at the heart of the neoconservative movement.
The suggestion that the Standard may have been a target complicates any view of the racist shooter in contemporary left-right terms.
